Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy

At Murphy’s Medication Compounding Laboratory, we compound hormone replacement therapy for both men and women. As we age, our bodies tend to produce fewer hormones creating an imbalance and a proliferation of the symptoms of ageing. The medical terms for this process are usually referred to as menopause in women and andropause in men. With our compounding pharmacy, we are able to work with patients and physicians to restore that balance.  Unlike the products that are available commercially, the hormones at Murphy’s Pharmacies are biologically equivalent to the hormones that are produced in the body. Most women all receive the same dose that is available commercially. At Murphy’s Pharmacies, we measure hormone levels in the body and then customize the dose that will meet the needs of each individual person.

Some benefits of hormone therapy include: promotion of youthful cell growth in organs, enhanced skin smoothness, firmness and elasticity, enhanced muscle tone, decrease risk of osteoporosis, enhanced sex drive, decrease risk of colon cancer, and overall increase in feelings of well-being and quality of life.

What Is Progesterone?

Progesterone is one of the female sex hormones.  Progesterone prepares the body for pregnancy and has a crucial role in maintaining pregnancy once it occurs. Progesterone is produced in the ovary by the corpus luteum (the follicle left in the ovary after ovulation) and its levels are highest during the second half of the menstrual cycle. This hormone promotes maturation of the endometrium (uterine lining) to prepare for implantation of a fertilized egg. If pregnancy does not occur, progesterone levels plummet and the endometrium is shed (menstruation).

Progesterone has other roles in the female body as well. Progesterone levels act as a balance to Estrogen levels. Progesterone helps to protect breast tissues, promote thyroid function, and acts as a natural anti-depressant and anti-anxiety agent. Progesterone has been referred to as the “calming hormone”.

Why Might You Need To Supplement Progesterone?

Progesterone levels can be low at any age and for many reasons. The level of progesterone in the body should be proportional to the amount of Estrogens in our body (another female sex hormone). If we are exposed to high levels of estrogen, our body may not produce enough progesterone to create the ideal progesterone to estrogen ratio which can result in symptoms of Estrogen Dominance or Progesterone Deficiency.

Symptoms Of Low Progesterone

  • Water Retention
  • Weight Gain
  • Low Thyroid Hormone Symptoms
  • Irregular and/or Heavy Vaginal Bleeding
  • PMS
  • Breast Tenderness
  • Depression
  • Mood Swings
  • Increased risk for Breast and Uterine Cancer

Progesterone Deficiency can occur during peri-menopause and pre-menopause, because the body may not be ovulating. If there is no egg to mature in the ovary, or an egg fails to ovulate, then there is no corpus luteum in the ovary to produce progesterone. Without progesterone production, Estrogen Dominance occurs.

How Does Bio-Identical Progesterone Differ From Synthetic Versions?

Synthetic progesterone (called Progestins) are not identical to the progesterone produced by the human body. Because progestins are not the same as progesterone, they can not provide all of the benefits that bio-identical progesterones can. Progestins can also have some negative side effects that are not present when supplementing with bio-identical progesterones.

What Dosage Forms of Bio-Identical Progesterone Are Available?

 > Capsules   > Topical Creams    >Vaginal Suppositories

If using a topical cream, avoid skin-to-skin contact in the area where the cream is applied with other people for approximately thirty minutes after application.

Murphy's Medication Compounding Laboratory Wart Treatment

How Does It Work?

Deoxy-D-Glucose is a chemical known to inhibit cell growth and kill the HPV virus. Cimetidine blocks the reproductive cycle of the HPV virus preventing it from spreading. Compounders have been making this product as a treatment for warts for years with great success. The compound, when used over time, will separate the wart from the surrounding skin and it will fall off.

How Do You Use It?

The instructions for use are very similar to other wart treatments. The patient should soak the area, file it down with an emry board, then apply the cream. No bandage should be applied. It is most effective when used three times a day, but success is still achieved when applying once or twice daily.

What Type of Warts Will It Treat?

This compound can be used to treat all warts.

What Are the Advantages of Using This Treatment Method?

  • Pain free
